Readiness for Kindergarten – Sing a Song for Backpacks

I’m always amazed at the resources I find when searching on the web. I had no idea there were so many songs and videos about backpacks. Singing is a wonderful  readiness for kindergarten activity. It helps to develop auditory discrimination and memory, vocabulary, rhythm, rhyming, language fluency, listening skills, social skills, basic concepts, and that’s only a few. While there are appealing kids’ artists and great CD’s some of the best songs are the ones that kids and parents/caregivers make up as they go along. For instance, here are a few verses using the familiar tune Here We Go ‘Round The Mulberry Bush:

This is the way we open the backpack, open the backpack, open the backpack.
This is the way we open the backpack, and get ready to go.

This is the way we put stuff in, put stuff in, put stuff in.
This is the way we put stuff in, and get ready to go.

This is the way we close the backpack, close the backpack, close the backpack.
This is the way we close the backpack, and get ready to go.

When loading the backpack, sing about each item: This is the way we put in a hat, put in a hat, put in a hat, etc. This may even help kids with getting ready to go which is much more than kindergarten readiness. This is the way we put in some learning….
What songs can you sing about backpacks?
