Kindergarten Readiness – Learning Shapes

All this week, I’ll post some quick ideas for learning about shapes that tie in to Christmas. Holidays add extra fun to kindergarten readiness.

Since there are lots of Christmas trees to see, have your child look at the shape. It’s like a triangle shape, with 3 sides and 3 pointy corners. At home, check the house for more triangle shapes. On the bus, can you see any more triangles? Roofs make triangles, some road sings are triangles.

Here is a craft activity using this shape. Trace and cut out a big triangle on a colored paper. Find a few things that kids can safely glue on, such as some pictures cut from flyers, or bits of other colors. Look at that, a triangle tree all ready for Christmas. What else can you make with triangles?
