R and R = resolutions and reading
Sure hope you are doing better on the resolution to read and share books and stories with your little ones than I’m doing on mine, (getting to bed earlier at night). Sigh. Well, January is only the first month of the year, there’s 11 more. And here is a fantastic bit of research that outlines the reward for reading to children.
In a study of kindergartners, those who were read to at least 3 times a week…were almost twice as likely to score in the top 25% of literacy tests than children who were read to less….(Nat’l Institute for Literacy, 2006) Imagine, not only helping with kindergarten readiness, but being able to boost your munchkin to the top of the bunch just by reading and interacting with books. Pretty good numbers…hmm, speaking of #, any guesses what’s coming up for February?
