Four on the floor, but bugs have more and so does this blog, more kindergarten readiness activities that is. Bugs and creepy crawlies can inspire lots of learning and fun. Kids need physical activities to channel their ants-in-the-pants energy but more importantly moving helps brains make all kinds of connections and pathways that will be used as kids develop and learn.
How do bugs move? They crawl and jump and slither and roll. Ask your child to move like a bug. Some bugs are fast and some are very slow. Flying like a bug is okay for the yard or a big empty room but in the house bugs need to take it slow as they go. Maybe a caterpillar could put the towels in the laundry or help in another way where it’s better to be careful instead of speedy. Maybe your child could sit still as a butterfly on a flower and count to 10. Or perhaps be an ant that picks up toys and carries them back to the ant hill (which is the toy box, of course).
There are lots of ways that bugs can move and different parts of their bodies that move. Encouraging your child to move in different ways helps for muscle growth, balance, coordination and thinking as well as kindergarten readiness. What other ways do bugs move?
