Are you ready to eat up some kindergarten readiness and nature learning and fun? In this series of posts #8 is Ate, that is checking out what people and animals and plants all need to eat. Nature also includes food and nutrition.
In the fall, while we are raking yards we might be able to find some acorns. Does your child know what small animal looks for acorns for food? Kids don’t need wilderness to see squirrels, they can find them in urban areas, busily adding to their winter stores.
On a walk at this time of the year, you and your child may see many birds eating the berries in a bush or tree. While pulling plants and digging up the garden, there may be a few seeds. Take these into the house and grow a few in a sunny window.
Orchards may be open for visits and you and your child can gather some apples or other fall fruits. Corn mazes and pumpkin patches are great places for connecting to nature and having lots of fun.
As forester, Andy Hall reminded us, when I interviewed him on the radio show Learn and Play with Mrs A last week (podcast), one of the most important basic learnings is that nature has cycles. When gathering food and seeds kids get to experience these cycles first-hand. Where might you and your child explore some #ate nature?
