For some colorful plays-of-the-day today how about a whole bunch of activities for kids and color red fun? In the words of Kathy Stinson, Red is Best.
There are so many different variations of each color. Just think of the color red. Rudolph’s nose is red; tomatoes, many apples, strawberries, blood, roses, maple leaves, and Elmo are all red. These reds are not all the same, even if they have the same name. To help with learning colors, have a day that is brought to you by the color red.
There are some really fun books about red. Some parents and caregivers may also remember Big Bird’s Red Book. Big Bird keeps looking for the color red but keeps missing all the action. Kids can go for a walk to see the color red. There’s usually something big and red at the end of the block or street.
Tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood. She is not the only one who wears a red cape, so does Superman. Is there something red at your house so kids can dress up as either one?
Besides a walk, books, stories, and dress up, there are lots of yummy foods for making a red snack. Tomatoes can be in either small pieces or in a sauce and there are lots of other yummy red fruits. If kids are old enough, they may be able to help cut up some red pepper bites. Even little hands can help wash some red berries.
For some inside fun, look through art and craft bins. See if there are some red crayons, red paints, and red markers to make some pictures just with red. Or red playdough with some red buttons to make measles. There will likely be some toys that are red too, like duplo, blocks, dishes, and more. What might happen with just a bin of red toys? Kid may want to sort some small items and find the bits that are red. These numbers are all red.
What other play activities can kids do for the color red? Does your child think red is best?
Here’s a picture when Mrs. A gets to meet Superman, that is actor Dean Cain.
