Christmas action songs give excited little bodies something fun to do, especially if the weather outside is frightful so there’s more inside the house time.
Instead of hands, feet and other body parts doing the Hokey-Pokey, kids can be reindeer and use their antlers, tails, hooves, and their red Rudolph noses. Reindeer come from the North Pole so stamp the snow about or dash all around. Here are some ideas to start and you can make up more of your own:
Reindeer-Pokey
You put your antlers in, you put your antlers out,
You put your antlers in and shake them all about.
You do the Reindeer-Pokey and you stamp the snow around,
That’s what it’s all about.
You put your front hooves in, etc.
You put your red nose in, etc.
You put your tail it, etc.
The Lights on the Christmas Tree uses the tune The Wheels on the Bus and as many verses as you and your child can think of:
The lights on the tree go blink, blink, blink,
Blink, blink, blink. Blink, blink, blink.
The lights on the tree go blink, blink, blink,
All Christmas Day.
The presents underneath go rattle, rattle, rattle, etc.
The baby in the crib goes wa, wa, wa, etc.
The grandma in the house goes kiss, kiss, kiss, etc.
The grandpa in the house goes hug, hug, hug, etc.
The bells on the sleigh go jingle, jingle, jingle, etc.
For lots of whole body actions, use the song We Wish You a Merry Christmas:
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year.
Now let’s do a little jumping,
Now let’s do a little jumping,
Now let’s do a little jumping
And spread Christmas cheer.
(raise arms, lower them in big circle, and wiggle fingers)
Now let’s do a little hopping,
Now let’s do a little running, (just on the spot)
Now let’s do a little waving, (wave vigorously)
Now let’s do a little marching,
Now let’s do a little stamping,
Now let’s do a little dancing,
For times when it’s needed:
Now let’s do a little sleeping,
And spread Christmas che…yawn…zzz.
