Did you know that making noise er…music…can be a kindergarten readiness and Halloween learning and fun activity? While the adults are trying not to listen to the sounds that kids make on their pianos and other toys, kids are certainly enjoying them.
At a time today when you can face the music, invite your child to make some spooky Halloween sounds. One of the basic skills that even very young children learn as they shake and drum is their bodies and actions can influence what is happening. Later, this becomes more purposeful as kids repeat a noise or sound over and over. Children listen intently to see if the sound is always the same or if they can vary what happens by doing something differently. The sound at one end of the piano is very different from the sound at the other end. The tin can makes one noise when little hands shake it and a different one when it rolls across the floor.
Many toys and other items can make Halloween music. And there’s lots of great words to practice like spooky, creepy, scary, and more. Kids own voices can make spooky sounds such as ooooo’s and eeeee’s. When it gets too much for your ears, maybe there is a spell to make the noise disappear. What do we call sounds that are invisible? If we can’t hear a sound, is it a ghost-sound?
