Kindergarten Readiness – Turkey Art Project

(Canadians need to save this idea for next year. Americans do it this week.) Simple art projects are part of kindergarten readiness. Children practice listening to directions, organizing, planning and creating. Super easy to find the materials for this art project! It’s attached. Before starting, find a picture of a turkey in a book or on the web and name the colors that you see. Does a turkey have feet with toes like we do, webbed feet like a duck, paws like a dog? Check out the head, too. Does anyone know the name of the red, bumpy part that hangs down by the nose? It’s called a wattle, almost rhymes with gobble. Now, for the art.

Either help children trace their hand with the fingers spread wide apartĀ or you can do that bit. Add 2 legs, feet, eyes, beak and wattle. Color. Voila, one colorful turkey stuffed with learning.
