Happy 4th! The summer begins for many families this weekend and a favorite summer activity is camping. Camping is not only great for fun it’s great for learning, too. As I was working on a blog post that would connect July 4 to camping I discovered a new book that does just that. It’s called “The Camping Trip that Changed America”, by Barbara Rosenstock. It talks about preserving the land for future generations.
A kindergarten readiness checklist will not include caring for the environment as one of the items but connecting to the natural world is important for any age. Plus, developing a caring attitude about nature is one way to honor July 4th. While this new book is not available until 2012 there is another one released in 2009 that talks about the same famous camping trip, “Camping With The President”, by Ginger Wadsworth. Who’s camping with you? Can you suggest some other camping learning activities?
