While scrolling thru all the inspirations yesterday, I saw this one that seemed perfect for today’s kindergarten readiness fun and learning play-of-the-day and explains why hearts love time in nature.
“The earth’s magnetic resonances vibrate at the same frequency as human heart rhythms and brainwaves.” (Erik Bucci, A Change of Heart Changes Everything, OracleTalk.com)
When reading that quote, it’s no wonder that each of us needs time in nature. What better time than the day after Valentine’s? There are so many of my blog posts about connecting to nature that it could almost be too much, but especially not for young children.
Have you ever seen a toy top spinning? When it has the right balance and rhythm it spins smoothly; if not it wobbles and goes any direction. Kids are like that and when they are out of balance and rhythm, they wobble and get out of control too. Many things can happen to kids to upset their balance. Some of these might be big changes, such as a new brother or sister, or living in a new place, but even small events, like getting the wrong color lid on a sandwich container can trigger “the wobbles”.
Time in nature can restore our rhythm and balance. That could be a walk or bike ride, kicking a ball in the park, climbing and sliding at the playground, splashing in puddles, making mud pies or snow cakes, and running around the yard. Not all activities will be appropriate, depending on the age of children. Plus, the weather will influence how much time we can spend outside and what we can do, but it’s important to have some outside activities, if at all possible. For hearts, minds, and bodies, can you and your child enjoy some time in nature?
